The Crabslide

Once there was a crabslide blog that never quite caught on...

Now that list has come here to rest.

In December 2005, I was first introduced to a study either based on or directly from Unity of the Bible written by Daniel Fuller. The study is also written by Fuller, though, even if it's not directly from the book.

Oversimplified, the study is about the various ways one defies God by disbelieving His promises and reminds how we can fight disbelief in God - which leads to death - by remembering God's clear promises to us.

Envy

The Lie: God doesn't have good plans for my future.
This post is a reminder of a lie and a promise.
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

The Scripture: John 21:18-19, Psalm 73:25-26, Romans 10:12

John 21:18-19
Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go.” Now this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, Follow Me!”

Psalm 73:25-26
Whom have I in heaven but You?

 Romans 10:12
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him

Despondency

The Lie:
God is incapable to provide a good future.

The Scripture: Philippians 4:4, Romans 12:12, Hebrews 10:35-38

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!

Romans 12:12
rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,

Hebrews 10:35-38
Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.  For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
For yet in a very little while,
He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
But My righteous one shall live by faith;
And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

Impatience

The Lie:
God doesn't know the right time. He isn't quick enough. He isn't doing anything.

The Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Isaiah 55:7-9, Romans 8:28

Listlessness

The Lie:
Since God has no plan for me, there's nothing I can do which will fulfill me. God has nothing for me to do to fulfill me.

The Scripture: Psalm 16:11, John 4:34, Psalm 23:2-3

Psalm 16:11
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

John 4:34
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.

Psalm 23:2-3
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Anxiety

The Lie
: What concerns you does not concern God.

The Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7, Philippians 4:6-7

1 Peter 5:7
casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
